Malaysian cancer researchers |
 |
|
CARIF continues to develop
Malaysian cancer researchers, by
identifying talented young
scientists and training them to
be the next generation of cancer
researchers. |
|
|
|
CARIF came from humble
beginnings. We started off in a
temporary lab of just 700 sq ft, but
today, we are a 24-strong all-Malaysian
team of researchers: 6 PhD scientists, 8
MSc scientists, 8 graduate scientists
and 2 support staff, and our numbers are
growing. Many of our staff are training
and obtaining Masters and PhD’s in
cancer research. CARIF will
continue to invest in recruiting,
retaining and training the nation’s most
talented and highly-skilled scientists
in our fight against cancer.
CARIF is led by Dr. Teo Soo-Hwang.
Soo-Hwang obtained a Triple First
Honours degree at the University of
Cambridge, where she was the top
student. She continued her research
career at the University of Cambridge,
first with Professor Dame Jean Thomas
and then with Professor Stephen Jackson.
In 1998, Soo-Hwang was awarded the
prestigious Royal Society Dorothy
Hodgkin Research Fellowship for her
work. She returned to Malaysia in 2001
to work with YM Tunku Ahmad and YABhg
Toh Puan Aishah Ong to establish
CARIF.
