CARIF won 1 Gold Award (Innovative Research Category) and 1 Silver Award (Fundamental Research Category) at the 2005 UM Expo on Research, Inventions and Innovations.
September 2005
CARIF won the Young Investigator’s award, the First and Second Prize for Best Poster in Applied Science Category at the 1st Regional Conference on Molecular Medicine.
October 2005
CARIF’s first PDT paper, demonstrating that PDT can kill cancer cells regardless of p53 status, is published in Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology.

MOU was signed between CARIF and the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre to access extracts of plants from Sarawak.
November 2005
MOU was signed between CARIF and the Forest Research Institute Malaysia to access extracts from the forest reserves in Malaysia.
November 2005
CARIF’s Group Leader for the Oral Cancer Project was awarded the UICC International Cancer Fellowship for an attachment at the National Institute of Health (NIH), Bethesda, USA.
December 2005
CARIF’s PDT paper on the isolation and characterization of novel photosensitisers  from Malaysian plants is published in Chemistry and Biodiversity.
March 2006
CARIF’s Project Manager graduates as the first Associate Genetic Counsellor for familial cancers in Malaysia registered with the Human Genetic Society Australasia.
June 2006
CARIF screened its 800th plant extract for photosensitisers in the Photodynamic Therapy project.
August 2006
CARIF won 2 Bronze awards at the 2006 UM Expo on Research, Inventions and Innovation.
September 2006
CARIF was the beneficiary of the Terry Fox Run Kuala Lumpur 2006, which attracted an unprecedented 9,500 participants at the Lake Gardens. From this event, RM280,000 was donated to CARIF in support of cancer research in Malaysia.
October 2006
MOU was signed between CARIF and Sime Darby Technology Centre to access extracts of plants from West Malaysia.

 

December 2006
CARIF was awarded two e-Science grants from Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) for two cancer projects.
