The Cancer
Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF) is a
Malaysian cancer research charity that is
conducting research we believe will benefit
Malaysians now and in the future:-

We are
looking for new ways to cure or control
oral and nasopharyngeal cancers. 80% of
these cancers occur in Asia and we are
using cutting edge technologies to find
ways to beat these cancers. |

We are
determining how genetic changes in
Asians cause increased risk to cancers,
starting with breast cancer. |

(c) |
We are
using Malaysia’s biodiversity to develop
new cancer therapies.
Located at the Subang Jaya Medical
Centre, CARIF collaborates with
local and international research groups
and clinicians. CARIF is now
offering the following positions for
science graduates and medical laboratory
technicians who are keen to join us. |
Position 1
Research Associate
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) Project
You
will work in a team of 6 scientists, reporting
directly to the PDT group leader, in the
isolation and characterisation of novel
compounds from Malaysian organisms. You should
have a PhD or MSc in Organic Chemistry,
preferably majoring in Natural Products.
Experience in bioassay-guided chromatographic
separation is essential. You will have the
opportunity to take on leadership roles within
the team and to develop your career future

Position 2
Research Associate
Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) Project
You
will report to a post-doctoral scientist in
charge of NPC research and you will have more
interaction with the oral cancer project team (6
members). The overall objective of the project
is to identify and develop biomarkers for
diagnosis and therapy. Your role will be to
validate potential biomarkers identified from
CARIF’s microarray experiments using RT-PCR and
immunohistochemistry methods. You will also have
the opportunity to test the function of these
genes in cancer development using cell lines.
You will have a BSc or MSc in molecular biology
or genetics or a related field. You will have
the opportunity to develop your career future
through training conducted in-house and

Position 3
Laboratory Scientific Officer
You
will be responsible for sample collection and
storage for the NPC, breast and oral cancer
project. You will liase with the nursing staff
and clinicians from collaborating hospitals and
institutes for sample and data collection. You
will also be responsible for the overall
maintenance of the laboratory including liquid
nitrogen and laboratory safety maintenance. You
will assist in the evaluation of new instruments
and purchase of reagents and consumables. You
will have a BSc or Diploma is Medical Laboratory
Technology. You will have the opportunity to
